I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......

Seems they will be hanging on to 9A for the foreseeable future. I wonder what the feather cleaning is all about?

Two posts side by side and both have a band and both in rehabilitation.
Things look good for NEL and I still feel the best medicine is that they are able to migrate within their season.
Blue 9A the synopsis does not look good and still stick to my own thoughts that ospreys do not do well in long term captivity and suffer from many related problems.
I too wonder what long term problems may arise from an inability to migrate in the first year of birth.
I asked the question on LDOP Facebook page re feather cleaning and received this reply:
"Feather cleaning is necessary as he has been on the ground until now and feathers will have became soiled, so cleaning should give him the best chance to fly"
