I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
Kielder nest 3 ringing - another great report and beautiful healthy chicks
Thanks GS More stunning young
This morning TIGER told me about a nest where the female was being aggressive to her chicks, so I started recording it. Needless to say, I have to tell you that I've got problems with the tech side, it keeps freezing and jerking.
However, it didn't take long to find some alarming behaviour by the mother (and she's at it again as I type!). She'll have a chick off the nest soon :o
At the start of this vid I'm just showing that she had been feeding the chicks, then...

Thank you scylla. It is good to have a record of this behaviour. It is certainly odd.
I have come the conclusion is that she is really alpha chick in the nest.

I have been watching that nest, recently, SCYLLA. I can't fathom out the females behaviour. I could guess that she has health problems, dementia. We will probably never know. Even though they are quite large, the three chicks do not retaliate.

I wondered that very same thing, BRENDA, and as you say we will probably never know. Unless they do an autopsy (is it necropsy for non-humans?).

I think autopsy is more commonly used these days, SCYLLA. Even in business now. LOL
This is the Loch Insh male, I know this is not as good or clear as LMac's photos of this nest, but thought I would post anyway. Maybe you can keep us updated LMac on any news of the three juveniles fledging.
and directly below the nest was this lovely Roe Deer

Beautiful photos Mary. I have been so unlucky with osprey spotting at this nest this year. Every time I went I could only see females head above nest although this year she has decorated beautifully with lots of green foliage but that hampers the view - how selfish of her :) I am north this weekend so will try to pop along early tomorrow or teatime today. Love the little roe deer they are so pretty.
Thanks LMac - agree those big green leaves block out a lot of what is going on in the nest. Maybe one of the juveniles will have fledged by now so hopefully you will get to see them in and around the nest.
