I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
Tiger thank you for the link to osprey rehab
Live cam back on and they have rescued Nel
I hope Nellie will be ok.

Starling so do I - very odd behaviour - we don't know how they are affected by bereavement. If she was human I'd say she was depressed poor thing

Yes very odd behaviour.

Seems to me that Nellie's normal had turned so completely abnormal that she simply shut down.

I recognise that is horribly simplistic of me, but could she possibly be pining over the loss of her mate, or does that just not happen at all in the osprey world?

Someone local on the Nelson chat has written that Nel fed twice after rescued and I see that Nellie has just arrived back on the nest
Would think possibly Sheila. Also perhaps she was unsure of what to do - depart herself to fish or stay with her chick - am sure her maternal instincts are quite strong. I once saw a blackbird dead on the road and its mate standing over it so perhaps birds do feel more than what we imagine.
