I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
All very sad Tiger, I am reading chat but can't watch the cam anymore. I think intervention is too late and will just prolong the despair or those who are getting very rattled on chat.
As though she has completely switched off now

Now they are suggesting on chat that Tag died due to getting caught in the sticks and becoming cold - nothing to do with lack of food! I can no longer watch - so sad
GS, unfortunately he did get caught in the sticks but I think his lack of nutrition caused his lack of strength to get himself unstuck.
Yes Lmac I noticed him stuck in the sticks but the mods refuse to admit it was also due to his lack of nutrition. Saw Tag lying there this morning when I logged on and knew he was gone. As you say poor wee thing hadn't the strength
I am sorry, but I really do not believe that prayer will help this wee chick. I find the chat difficult to read or to catch up with, but well done those from the UK/others who are trying to give helpful information and experience.

Whilst i dont get a lot of time, it has been fascinating to follow the situation on the nest at Nelson periodically over the last few days and am as saddened as everyone by the loss of life there. What i cant understand is the change in the behaviour of Nellie because i think we all accept that normally the mothers instinct is to do everything within her power to protect the eggs, then the chicks. She knows where the fish is but for whatever reason it appears that she is unwilling to accept it, even if the chicks life is threatened. Another example to show how difficult it is for us to understand everything that goes on in the animal kingdom.
I agree that Tag hadn't the strength to get off the rim of the nest. He may well have got caught up in the sticks but he had obviously grown too weak to extricate himself. It would not have made a great deal of difference had he managed to get back under Nellie the way things have turned out.
At the Nelson nest there was talk of a rescue last night. Had a look in this morning and it looks like Nellie is still brooding the chick. I don't have facebook and the chat is off for the night, does anyone know what was said on facebook?

Hello Everyone,
I am a volunteer at O.W.L. Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society in Delta BC. As of this afternoon we have been communicating with Conservation Officers and the Nelson Hydro Company to facilitate a rescue of this poor chick. We have had great success rehabilitating Osprey at our facility. We are aware that time is of the essence, and are moving as quickly as we are able. Let's hope little Nel can hang on a little longer as we try to put it all together
