I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
Oh Thanks MARY
Thanks Mary. Very good news.
I think this is day 40 for the 3rd egg at Caerlaverock which still appears to be intact. The "v" seen yesterday must have been either pattern or a bit of grass however the two chicks are growing and looking very strong and healthy. Here is a capture of the afternoon feed after the male delivered a fish around 2pm.
The Caerlaverock Osprey Project is a joint project with WWT, FCS and SNH. Webcam:
Been to see the Threave Ospreys this afternoon. They put on a good show: Mrs had a fly-about off the nest for a few minutes, and dear Black 80 was around at first, disappeared upstream to Loch Ken for a while and returned with a fish. He stayed on the nest to watch her feed their two chicks and also have a good feed herself.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
OG - Many Thanks for your first hand report from your visit to Castle Douglas.
On a second note this was posted by LOTL on Q & A
Q: If you don’t have any chicks this year, would you consider satellite tagging a chick from another location?
A: we already have contingency plans to tag an osprey chick from another local SWT reserve , but of course we will have to wait and see how things go on those nests too.
I am not sure which SWT nest they are considering as a contingency plan - The tagging of Blue YD was done at high risk at their Angus Site and I understand from locals that the birds were not ringed last year because of the high risk of toppling the nest and tree. It is very unstable.
Seems 3rd egg at Caerlaverock has failed The 2 chicks are healthy and that's the main thing

I think it was the first egg that failed not the third one. In my view the first egg to hatch was the second egg hatching on 36 days rather than the first egg on 39 days. Then the third egg hatched two days later on day 35 for it.
Tiger Signature
Great excitement at Hellgate Canyon where a juvenile has returned to buzz the nest.
