News from other nests 2013/2014

I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived.   No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird.  I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......

  • Karen reports regularly on Caerlaverock over on their site and at close of play No third chick yet.

First Chick was hatched 39 days and second 38 days and think tomorrow is Day 38 for Number 3 unless we skipped an egg.

From Pete at Wildlife egg laying schedule Tweed Valley Egg 1 will be 39 days tomorrow so hope those who watch this nest have a sharp eye - not sure where Pete got 21 April as first egg laid from though.

Then I think as Patily points out Lake District up at 37 Days tomorrow and Aberfoyle 38 days tomorrow so we may see a few more chicks soon.

Anyone any news from Crook of Baldoon.

  • Hatch at Aberfoyle:

"Our first osprey chick has hatched! Drunkie is bringing fish to the nest so all's looking good "

  • Still no 3rd hatch at Caerlaverock

Thanks for news of Aberfoyle and Tweed Valley, ALAN

  • This has been reported by The Forrestry Commission (Tweed Valley Osprey Project)this morning at 9:08 AM on their web pages.

First egg was observed on 21st April, second two were observed on 26th April. David, one of the volunteers has just reported that we have our first chick on the nest today. We hope to see the other two within 4/5 days also. Thanks for reading!

Thanks Alan for the heads up at your post and alerting us to the You tube Video of the Feed - Now my eyes are getting a wee bit old and can not make out whether she is feeding two or one ???????.

  • Keith : others have reported 2 but it is certainly unclear, no official confirmation.

  • I have just received this personal message from Crook of Baldoon.

It was news to me and some of you may be aware but for those who are not will post the message.

Sadly the two ospreys left the nest over the Easter weekend. It is thought the holidaymakers walking near the nest disturbed them so they left the nest site and crossed the bay. The female is still a bit young to be sexually mature so the pair may still be bonding. They have been seen still in the area and it is hoped they will return to the nest site next year.

  • Thanks Alan - Once you hear anything let us know as you always do with any of your sightings or nest news. It is much appreciated.

  • Thanks to everyone for all the nests info.

I went to Whinlatter today, to see the Bassenthwaite ospreys, first time this year. They were hoping for a hatch today, at 37 days, but no sign by the time I left 2.30pm. The two HD screens there are good, one with a view directly over the nest and one with a view from the side, and with zoom too.

Last week I visited Esthwaite to see the nest there, and could just make out the head of the sitting bird. I will return when - hopefully - there are chicks. It is not possible to see the other, earlier and also occupied nest, as it is hidden on private land.

Also two weeks ago I saw the nest at Foulshaw Moss reserve, it is out in the middle of a boggy area, not easy to get to see. Luckily a couple were also visiting who knew it already.

  • Lake District have reported the first chick hatched between 7 and 7:30 last night. They have a video on the LDOP Facebook.
