I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
scylla said:LOL Karen, I wasn't watching continually as faffing about with photos of them. Thanks for the explanation, worrying unduly for nothing. MARY, you've no idea, no idea whatsoever, of the sense of relief I felt to be back where it's OK to "worry" in public (justified or not) - I truly feel that I'm among friends :-* [/quote] Scylla - What am I going to be like by the end of the season LOL.... Not knowing anything about this nest I wasn't sure about the female, but have been informed that she is normally attentive. So it will be nice to watch while we wait on our own Osplets appearing. :-) EJ's Memorial Balgavies Loch Ospreys 2023

No, not Belle, unfortunately, LMAC :'( The head marking is quite different and her breast so strongly speckled. We (we being Lin Lawson's osprey facebook page) have called her Opal and the male is Iceman. She fought off several competing females to win Ice, who rejected her initially as he was working on another female, Frida, who we thought would be permanent.
Anyway, this lovely couple are working hard to build up a comfy and safe nest (despite crows UN-working it whenever they get the chance), but their mating is not very successful, they both seem inexperienced.

Tweed Valley cam is live:

SANIBEL OSPREY NEST
The couple's mating attempts have left a lot to be desired - Iceman most often overshoots the runway - but this time he got it right (ish!), however Opal didn't seem to approve, she beat him with a stick right afterwards :o
Iceman must have put more work into this nest than any osprey has put into any nest, but it still looks a mess, every day the crows come in and get up to mischief. It must surely be too late for this couple to breed, but they must be well and truly bonded :-) Better luck next year?
Did you see the state of the poor girls feathers also Scylla - no wonder she has taken to the mating scene very well
Posted this in wrong place! So moving now!
I am not at home so cannot see webcam, but just received a text to say that there was an osprey on the nest at Tweed Valley, couldn't see if it was White SS or not.
Mike - Maybe you could move your post as well from Glaslyn.
