I have just had a look at Sanibel cam and I see an Osprey has arrived. No idea who it is - is it Ripply from last year or a new bird. I remember last year finding a facebook/blog page about this nest but for the life of me can't remember what it was so can't compare images from last season, so if anyone else can remember......
The female is joined by the male and a stand-off holds, the male is still mantling as I type. I have to have a nap and cannot wait for them to get it together ;-)
IMAGICAT
Both on the nest just now.
I have just seen a drawing in another place which suggests that there are two males and one female at Sanibel.

Looked at the cam a few times today but empty nest.

Mary, same for me an empty nest when i've looked.
Tiger, thanks for that bit of news, nest now looks deserted. Poor Belle I hoped for better this year. Every time I look in it is empty and don't spend much time waiting to see who arrives. Busy looking in on Romeo & Juliet and Ozzie & Harriet bald eagle nests. Lucy and Larry are still thriving even with Lucy's missing talon also. Not sure when eggs are due at their nest but the two other nests have two chicks each.

'We do know from Rutland that the project will be difficult with possibly only single figures of the birds out of an expected translocation of 60 surviving to full adult but then we only need another 03/97 for the whole project to turn into a huge success. '
And another 05/00.

HilaryJ - Absolutely :):)
I was giving too much credit to the male species and together what a team raising 17 chicks between them as a pair. 05/00 rised three chicks every year since her return to RW as a 3YO and raised three chicks every year bar 2004 until her failure to return in 2009.
Yes not bad 17 in six years and Thank You for reminding me of the credibility of the female partner in a team :):).
I shall rephrase that Urdaibai will be a difficult project as we know from early days at RW but it only takes one team like 03/97 and 05/00 to turn it into a huge success.
There is much confusion over ID-ing the ospreys, particularly the males, on the Sanibel nest. Yesterday I only found a 3-minute visit the whole day, by one of the males - I THINK the regular one (as opposed to the intruder one) but can't be 100% sure.
