We have now come to December when the eternal question is what has happened to the year. Where did 2013 go so quickly? Another season of Osprey have been hatched, fed, grown, fledged and migrated. They brought us delight and humor, joys and sorrows, but most of them are now in their winter quarters. We hope for their continued safety as we continue to follow the movements of the tagged ones..
December is the month of snow and cold and darkness, It is also the month of the winter solstice, when the sun reaches its Northernmost point, turns around and heads back South. This is that magical day when the sunlight starts to creep back upon us, as each day gets that precious few minutes longer..
December, is also the month of Christmas. It is truly the month of hope and promise and joy..
I would like to say thanks for all who contributed their choice of music last night! It was excellent and varied, I still have not listened to all as some wont play on my phone! I thought it wasnt going to happen but in the end it got quite lively!
listening most days to WOBO now. Will try and get Jessie to say hi to you June if I can get through to them on "Skype" lo lo lo
I'll be listening, Fish.
Meantime, I've found another lovely version of Wild Mountain Thyme, with beautiful video.
Fish, I remember you were in Australia about this time last year. Pity we can't all take a trip half way round the world every year!! Seriously though, I do wish you could go now. It would do you a world of good.
Unknown said:I am particularly interested in the whereabouts of Oscar, who is papa to what I have come to think of as "my own" Apollo.
He is also papa to many other ospreys who have migrated to Africa but have remained there - I will tell you how later in the week.
Morning all
Keith: thank you for your brilliant summary . I do appreciate the time you spend doing this to keep us up-to-date.
June: I am enjoying Wild Mountain Thyme :-) It was a good music night and good selections.
Willow: enjoy baking your Christmas cake. Is your mum doing one too? I love the smell in the kitchen when the Christmas cake is cooking.
Fish: Hope you feel better soon. Enjoy Wobo
I’ve had a quick check this morning to see how the translocated ospreys are doing and their latest whereabouts:
Urretxindorra [ [N2] – this young osprey is towards the reservoir of Markala and seems comfortable in this area
Urdaibai [N1] - has settled in Senegalese coast
Brinzal [P4] – she has now entered Gambia
Montorre [P6] – on Nov 25th a blog advising no signal from her transmitter for over a month which is probably a transmitter fault but we’ll have no more news until one day she is hopefully sighted.
I see many towns now have up their Christmas trees and lights and watching the news this morning, I hear today being referred to as “Mega Monday” as it is expected to be the biggest on-line shopping day!
I do love the new "Bear and Hare” Christmas advert - it is really lovely and I think will be "the" one this year.
June: Here is a link for you if you would like to see it :-) Link to the Bear and Hare.
Well I must get on now with some chores. SYL
