This is a new thread to follow the travels of these three young ospreys from the Loch Garten nest.

Caledonia
Hatched on 16th May 2012, fledged on 14th July and left Loch Garten on 19th August.
The travels of Caledonia and her sister Alba were first followed in this thread, now closed. Caledonia is the first juvenile osprey tracked from Loch Garten to settle in Europe; she has been living on the northern outskirts of Seville for nearly a year now.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. LG blog on the ringing and tagging of Caledonia & Alba.

You presume correctly.....he's in a small area of about 2.5Km diameter.

Gosh my stomach churned there for a minute. Still cant get over the sheer bad luck for Caledonia.
Thanks for the vid link Sue C: it looks to be a very peaceful place for Caledonia to so sadly meet her end. The folk around her would have been very caring.

Sue's video is so lovely and so peaceful. Almost like a funeral for our dear Caledonia.
I am posting this link, but but with a warning to view with caution, and to bear in mind it has photos of a dead Caledonia.
Here is a BTO report on the finding of Caledonia at The Monastery of San Clemente. It is so sad seeing her like this, but surprisingly she does not appear to be injured. It must have been a quick death.
Caledonia looks in perfect condition, how sad that this accident cut short her life. She probably got no warning, it would be over in an instant.
Yes it is very good that we get to see the body of Caledonia and bring closure to her short life. So often with tracking we have been left with uncertainty as to what really happened to the bird as in the case of Caledonia's sister Alba.
Tiger Signature
As you say good to get closure but distressing and very upsetting photos of a bird that we all thought was 'safe'. A simple conduit to cause such damage to such a majestic bird. She looked to be in extremely good condition - just heartbreaking.
Oh Thanks Sheila but so so sad Caledonia just looks so magniecent and perfect.
A question that has been puzzling me is why she would be flying in fog Could it have come down whilst she was in flight and she was trying to get to her safe haven?

Thank you SheilaFE, such a sad demise for another of our majestic birds, but at least we have evidence, that would appear she did not suffer.
We are blessed that so many care and report their findings, what a wonderful insight for those youngsters, to be able to carry on caring and watching,
also, for them , realising how fragile a life, even though Caledonia's sheer size and strength of those wingspans.
