This is a new thread to follow the travels of these three young ospreys from the Loch Garten nest.
Oighrig
This male juvenile is the elder of the 2013 brood, hatched on 25th May and fledged on 16th July.
Oighrig’s ring is Blue/white CF5
Breagha
Also male, the younger of the 2013 brood, hatched 28th May and fledged on 19th July.
Breagha’s ring is Blue/white CF4.
LG blog on the ringing and tagging of Oighrig & Breagha
Caledonia
Hatched on 16th May 2012, fledged on 14th July and left Loch Garten on 19th August.
The travels of Caledonia and her sister Alba were first followed in this thread, now closed. Caledonia is the first juvenile osprey tracked from Loch Garten to settle in Europe; she has been living on the northern outskirts of Seville for nearly a year now.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. LG blog on the ringing and tagging of Caledonia & Alba.
Another BLOG from Richard.------ Latest Osprey Whereabouts.
It looks like Breagha has changed départements & is now in Maine-et-Loire (49). He is roosting in the commune of Varennes-sur-Loire but south of the river is the commune of Montsoreau. For local observations you can check on THIS site.
Looking on the map there appears to be a walking/running route around his roosting area.(Parcours sportif)
Best wishes

Good to know the birds are doing ok.

Birdies LG DU update.
There are a few photos of Varennes-sur-Loire on their website HERE
Thanks Noisette - here's something else that might interest you - and other Francophiles......
Breagha's current haunts are bang in the middle of the Parc Naturel Regional (PNR) Loire-Anjou-Touraine
The park's website (see link above) isn't the friendliest I've encountered, and there doesn't really seem to be an English version, but it's packed with information once you start browsing. For example:
Map of the park - its HQ and visitor centre is in Montsoreau, opposite Breagha's latest positions
Leaflet about the osprey "Lord of the Loire" (open .pdf file)
Birdwatching walks - this one IS in English (open .pdf file)
I'm starting to want to go there - though I suspect Breagha will move on before long.
The Loire Valley is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List - though this is for its "cultural landscape".
Thanks Sue, that area could be on the agenda for next years camping trips. We have visited Doué-la-Fontaine, also in that area, several times as we had a friend who used to live there. It is known as the ''City of roses'' & most of France's roses are grown around there. It's also the vegetable garden of France. It got very cold there one Autumn in November such that all the roses were frozen in the ground in the garden centre. So maybe its not great as a long-term stop.
Somewhere nearby are ancient troglodyte homes on the Loire, but not sure where.
Many thanks Sue and Noisette. It does indeed look as though it would be an interesting place to visit. The birdwatching link gives details of places to stay too!!! When I initially opened your link about the park the first picture showed a snow scene....
