Happy new week and new month!
The world's oldest known calendar device has been found in Scotland. It's based on the phases of the moon, as well as the position of the sun, and is 10,000 years old. That's 5,000 years older than the first formal calendar devices found in the Near East, which were thought to be the earliest. The device provides further evidence that Scotland's early civilisations were much more advanced than previously thought.
Good Morning ALL. A cooler ( 18.4c ) morning. Much more comfortable sleep last night because of the cooler temperatures.
Diane, I didn't realise that your house was so hidden from the road and so most people were unaware of your property. I now understand your situation more clearly. I guess the insurance will not pay for the removal of the wood ? I know when we had to have a couple of trees removed we had to pay extra for the site to be completely cleared. I hope all is carried out quickly and you find a friendly person to take all the wood. As Heather says, " We will all be relieved.... ".
Heather, I presume you are the seamstres, who will be altering the school trousers. Sounds as if your OH and Co. could be hungry when they return home.
Clare/ Limpy, Not sure what day you are leaving for your holiday, but do have a great time. I hope the weather will be fine for you.
Margo, Always in our thoughts. Very Best Wishes to you XX
Very quiet on here today. I am off to play bowls shortly. Hope you are all having an enjoyable day. SYAL

Great speech from the Balcombe residents:
No rain since before 7am, and the wind has blown everything dry, so OH was able to mow all the grass. It is the kind of gusting wind which usually brings storms, but nothing to see yet, and it is very warm, with bright blue sky.
Clare – had to laugh at the “Fig-leaf” on Alan’s Badger – well spotted! Not sure when you are setting off – I guess to have to see Helen off first – but have a great time!
Dibnlib – sorry you didn’t get to Moy show after all.
Lindyloo – a good try with the Sparrowkawk.
Brenda – pleased you were able to have a gardening day yesterday – always something to do at this time of year. I hope your team won the Bowls match!
Diane – so relieved that you have the cheque and the date for the tree – stay safe over the weekend! I also hope you can soon find someone to take the wood away, too. We shall only go to parts of the Environmental Arts Festival – just events nearest to home; it isn’t till the end of the month, but I got all those bookings confirmed, and only awaiting one more reply re Flavour fortnight events now. Our History group had a talk about Ness of Brodgar, but I think it was when we had snow a while ago, so we didn’t get there, but it is an interesting site.
Annette – I see you are making the most of June in August and getting things done.
Heather – I hope it was a successful shopping trip! Our 13 year-old Granddaughter is built like a stick and wears adult size 6!
Margo – I hope this coming week without treatment will be better for you – thinking of you.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
