Happy new week and new month!
The world's oldest known calendar device has been found in Scotland. It's based on the phases of the moon, as well as the position of the sun, and is 10,000 years old. That's 5,000 years older than the first formal calendar devices found in the Near East, which were thought to be the earliest. The device provides further evidence that Scotland's early civilisations were much more advanced than previously thought.
It's still sunny here, but very windy as well. We're bracing ourselves for what is obviously coming!

Sorry about the rain and thunderstorms Folks. We had two sharp showers this morning but as it is windy they blew through quite quickly. OH managed to cut the grass.
Our son and his wife, plus pup, stayed with us for the weekend. I have spent the morning washing bedding, towels etc. and replacing things which had to be moved because of the pup. It was like having a young child in the house. She has started puppy training classes, but I did have to shout 'Leave', so many times ;- )))
Must catch up on all your weekend posts now
Trying to upload more pics but getting either a red cross or a message saying "an error has occurred while uploading this file" Is it just me or is anyone else having problems? Some great pics from others, LINDYLOO, ALAN, LINDY so thanks.
Heard there was flash flooding in your area OG hope you are all still ok. We have had heavy rain and a bit of thunder this aft but didn't last long.
BRENDA Sounds like a busy weekend, glad the pup understands "Leave"
Which reminds me. a friends son was recently married and both are high earning RAF navigators, so what do you get them as a gift. The brides bro came up with the most original idea and they now have a "Goldie " pup. He is named Buca and is 12 weeks old. His new Mum and Dad are over the moon. Friend had a Goldie when her sons were growing up. She is newly retired from the NHS and although she still works 2 nights a week for MacMillans Nurses she will be delighted to baby sit for Buca.
Dog walk this aft and met up with someone who used to be a vet where we take Dillon. Since she left some years ago she has returned now and then as a Locum. Delighted to hear she is now back as permanent staff.
Did nothing different but 2 have posted. Will try more.
The red barge at the back is "The Seagull" and it is run by a charity. They take people with special needs on free canal cruises. Isn't that just wonderful!!! I know there are a few more of these around in Scotland.
Lovely pics, dibnlib: meant to say, enjoyed your earlier ones. Also those from l. loo and Alicat.
The thunder keeps going away and then half an hour later, coming back again. Have not had the enormous !Bangs! we had earlier, though, thank goodness. I really thought the house had been hit!! I should stress that I'm not nervous in storms, so you can see that it was an unusual event for us to be remarking on it. I went around the house unplugging TV's etc. just in case.
I've been busy with housework, and sending off pics of our lovely day with the family yesterday to our relatives. It was just a shame that neither of my sons could be there as it was too short notice to ask them to travel. Also helped my OH to cut down our enormous Lilac tree which had got so tall it was cutting out some of the light into the house: I hate chopping it as Lilacs only bloom on the old wood so there will not be much to see on it next Spring, however, its very vigorous so will soon recover.
Here is the first instalment of the Flower Show pictures for this year -
( they were massive!)
~ a notice says "Please do not touch these" - I wouldn't dare, for fear of it all falling down!
~ this was a watery garden in a very large bowl indeed!
Lovely pictures, Lindy - that second one especially looks like a vegetarian's dream!
Thanks, Limpy!! They were very impressive, and I stopped to congratulate the stall exhibitor, who was there. He tried to sell me some tomatoes as he had brought a huge drum of them with him. Some of the veg looked unreal.
You will have gathered that all these first pics are from the big RHS Horticultural Marquee, and there were so many displays in there it was hard not to linger. I only took pics of the best of these, which took my fancy, or I would have been there all day!
Arn't these pretty??
- we always have a Plan of Action to see as much as we can, and go into this big tent first before it fills up with people: later on in the day, you can't move hardly and certainly couldn't take photos of the exhibits.
The smell from these was amazing.......
