Was anyone around the lagoon with the hide at 5pm today?
I was walking along the guided busway and two birds were wreaking havoc over the lagoon.
From my distance I couldn't even tell if they were the same species, but only one of them seemed to be making all the noise.
I've included some grainy photographs of the culprits, but I'm not sure they will help.
Just curious to know what was going on.
Thanks all...
Those are Lapwings. Several possibilities for their behaviour. They may have been expressing their displeasure to an intruder near a nest site or they may have been having a territory dispute between themselves. Then again it could have been a male and female courting.

Wouldn't have got that from the picture in the book. I guess their crest isn't visible in flight.
I'll have to see if my little boy can spare me to go back and try to get a better photo.
Thanks Galatas!
The square wing tips are a dead giveaway.
Oh even better - I've scribbled down a note of that tip, thanks!
At this time of year they put on a fantastic display of aerobatics , wheeling and diving , swooping down to the ground only to swerve upwards at the very last moment when you think they are going to crash.
