Black-tailed Godwit.

Hello All, As Rolf mentioned in his latest report the Black-tailed Godwits are back, not quite the same numbers as last year but still very impressive. Five and a half thousand Black-tailed Godwits in one group is one of the most magical sights one can see on the Thames Estuary. A bright but blustery day showed the Godwits in their true beauty , the plumage starting to change on some as they continue on their migration. A few shots were achieved showing rings which could prove very useful to determine the migration route this winter. My gut feeling, this flock are continental winterers making their way back to their breeding grounds, last winter there were many east winds, this winter as we all know the wind has been mainly from a south westerly direction. The importance of Cliffe Pools and its Islands are shown again. In a word "Super". Have fun and enjoy the sight if you are lucky enough to see it.
