We have all waited patiently with fingers crossed to see if our pair of buzzards would settle down and raise a family on our webcam nest but after a lot of early activity they seem to gone to somewhere else. So not to worry here at Arne we have always got something else up our sleaves and I am sure a lot of you will remember our kestrel family from last year. They had a brilliant 2011 by succesfully raising four healthy chicks including the smallest one that worried a few people early on.
We have decided to put this nest back online now and you can also come and watch it in the visitor centre. The female is sitting on 5 eggs at the moment and this is the same as last year although one failed to hatch. We are not sure when she laid her eggs as she was already sitting on the 5 when we turned the camera back on a week ago. However we think she is at least 2 weeks earlier than last year and the first chick actually hatched on the 21st May 2011. It is a bit difficult to predict when they will hatch but the female will incubate for about 28. So given this information please feel free to have guesses on dates!
To Watch this webcam online follow the link on our main web page or click here http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/a/arne/webcam.aspx
Don't be confused by the buzzard information still on the page it will be updated in the next couple of days!
Thanks Scylla; I'll have a go copying from the address bar as you suggest, in Photobucket first then if all else fails will try YouTube. BUT not tonight lol!!
Going now everyone, hope at least one of the chicks return to roost in the box to keep the remaining one company through the night.
Sorry, popped out to see our beacon lit! Thanks for the live footage Mims, all over my head all this techie stuff but enjoying it all the same.
Yes, it's so exciting and very special to see the birds out live after watching on the webcam, we definitely saw a male on Coombe Heath on Saturday afternoon which sure must have been 'our Dad'!
Good morning everyone. Just looking in to see the remaining chick perched on the edge of the box. Aaaahh, won't be long now until he/she takes to the skies....
Couldn't resist this....it may be one of the last pics of 'The Last to Leave':(
Nice Mims. Not sure what just happened but think Mum came in with a food drop and then looks like a very bedraggled chick also inside and eating.
1350 appx: Popped back to see lunch being enjoyed (hope it wasn't from earlier, (video for you but needs tweaking so later). So good to see the sibling, to keep our youngest company:)
Ach! Ghastly weather
Just couldn't resist this one; the colour saturation looks brill with this cam:)
OK so here's the video of earlier. I apologise in advance for the long length (but necessary I think for the suspense:)), it freezes here and there but please wait a couple of secs as it corrects itself. Lastly I can't clip it, so please ignore the shoddy standard - some problems during the shoot!
I was AMAZED at what I saw, and hope you will enjoy it too - your patience will be rewarded (I hope).
DINNER FIGHTS BACK AND.....LEAVES.
Enjoy.....
