We have all waited patiently with fingers crossed to see if our pair of buzzards would settle down and raise a family on our webcam nest but after a lot of early activity they seem to gone to somewhere else. So not to worry here at Arne we have always got something else up our sleaves and I am sure a lot of you will remember our kestrel family from last year. They had a brilliant 2011 by succesfully raising four healthy chicks including the smallest one that worried a few people early on.
We have decided to put this nest back online now and you can also come and watch it in the visitor centre. The female is sitting on 5 eggs at the moment and this is the same as last year although one failed to hatch. We are not sure when she laid her eggs as she was already sitting on the 5 when we turned the camera back on a week ago. However we think she is at least 2 weeks earlier than last year and the first chick actually hatched on the 21st May 2011. It is a bit difficult to predict when they will hatch but the female will incubate for about 28. So given this information please feel free to have guesses on dates!
To Watch this webcam online follow the link on our main web page or click here http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/a/arne/webcam.aspx
Don't be confused by the buzzard information still on the page it will be updated in the next couple of days!
Thanks for this Lucy; and yes, I've just backtracked several times and the post has gone. The words re taking them from it's mother stick in my mind, a worry.
I still have the message in my inbox and it is in the right hands now, thanks Mims and Jot for being online just when I needed you :)
I've still got it in my inbox too, would have done something myself, but I had an operation last night! Home now, watching the growing day-by-day chicks with peas on my knee!
Jo T Always on the side of the feathered guy!

Thank goodness Lucy you kept it; I deleted everything off my mobile this morning, not thinking, so have no proof:( Please let us know if you hear any news and thanks again for following this up.
Got to go now, so happy watching everyone :)
Hi Lucy, Jot and Mims I saw the posts that you are refering to at 11pm last night and was very concerned. I passed the matter on to the lodge as soon as I got in this morning and it is being promptly investigated.
Excellent Michael, should have known you'd be hot on the case! :-)
What a horrible thing to have happened - just the nastiness of the message, even if it was a hoax and the dear chicks themselves are safe in their home.
Wednesday morning at around 8 o'clock I captured the chicks (perhaps) not* being fed and being fed, it's quite amusing/touching:
*I know that an insect or other very small prey can be gone before Mama let's us see what's happening.
IMAGICAT
Thank you so much Michael. And please keep us posted if you can, whatever the outcome :)

Oh thank you Scylla, that video was hilarious: a tug of war with a ?slow worm, those chicks are getting scary now, the way they launched themselves at mum when she appeared :)))
