Our Kestrels are now live on the Arne website! The female has been sitting on the eggs for 32 days so the first should hatch any time. She seems particularly restless today and sometimes you can even hear the chicks calling from the eggs. Who will be the first to see a hatched chick? It would be great to see everyones observations on this forum so we can keep updated with all the excitement! To see the webcam follow: http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/a/arne/webcam.aspx
And another just gone!
Sorry Sassy, in all the drama and excitement, forgot to say hello and welcome!
Was watching earlier and thought 'today will be the day' too, very vocal, fidgety and lots of wing stretching! Nice one pudweena for recording the times, I missed those two go :( (desperately trying to get ready to go the office) so I'm just going to fire out a few captions of this morning:
0836:
Wing stretches 0838:
Still four at 0844:
More wing stretching 0845:
Then I missed the two go! This is 0906 (there are two in there, one is at the back):
0909 hmmm, shall we?
One seems more interested than the other to go but they are both now at the back of the box (can hear voices outside). Oh gosh, it's all a bit overwhelming. I'm happy and upset all at the same time. Now, I really must try to get out the house :(((
... and food just brought in which one of them has ..
and ain't sharing ...!
Oh you only just missed them Hazel, and I really must get on and do things too!
the one on our right was almost flying inside the box a while ago and seemed ready to go but now they have changed places and he is on our left
sadly I won't be near a computer from later this afternoon until after the weekend so will have to catch up at Arne so sure to miss the final action. Thanks to everyone, especially Hazel, for keeping us all so up to date and informed constantly - it's been such a joy.
pudweena, it is my pleasure! I've now gone capture crazy from the office (!) and will post for those who can't be here.
At 1220 (ish) either one of the parents, or one of the fledglings, was on the roof and/or cam and it was really bothering the two remaining:
That went on for a good 15 minutes (loads more captures but will just post the one!!)
Then, at just after 1 p.m. ..... one of the fledglings returned!! Perhaps the outside world was not so appealing after all ...
Have a great time whatever you are doing this weekend pudweena.
Well! To re-cap, we had four first thing this morning, then two 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., then three!!
At this point:
If you look closely ... yep, still three (sorry, best capture I can do at the minute, the little darlings won't keep still!)
So, have we got three for the rest of the day??
Now, was it Dozy who went? Or Dozy who came back?! LOL
Torrential rain forced the fledgling back inside - it had been perched on the webcam and roof for some time. Pictures to follow as soon as I find time.
I heard another kestrel calling nearby - perhaps the 4th fledgling or a parent.
