Our Kestrels are now live on the Arne website! The female has been sitting on the eggs for 32 days so the first should hatch any time. She seems particularly restless today and sometimes you can even hear the chicks calling from the eggs. Who will be the first to see a hatched chick? It would be great to see everyones observations on this forum so we can keep updated with all the excitement! To see the webcam follow: http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/a/arne/webcam.aspx
They thought it was food .... so I thought if was food but alas ...
Glad the forecast is better for tomorrow. Don't want to dwell on the Lapwing chicks though :( !
They are looking hungry and they are geting big..when will they fledge from the nest?
Capturing the Light with an original perspective displayed in every Photograph..perhaps
3 of the chicks stood almost by the entrance to the nest box..could be getting ready to fly off?
I think they're just admiring the view Pete - and alternately pooping out the window!
They do look like mini kestrels proper now.
Its looking good for 4 to fledge..waiting for food maybe..
I reckon they'll become imprinted on tractors! :-)
not if they fly high..:-)
Yesterdays wet weather hasnt seemed to have much effect on the chicks, all four are fine today. Its is funny to watch them all lining up at the front of the box wating for food to be brought in by the parents. It is difficult to see what food is being brought in now as it disapears very quickly! The oldest chicks are 23 days old now and could be fledging in ten days time. The RSPB handbook of British Birds quotes 32 - 37 days so I am going to go for Friday next week - what does anyone else reckon?
I'm not going to argue with that Michael - but just for the hell of it I'll say Thursday! :-)
P.S. I may have to give them a push a little before midnight...
i think they be ready 20 june
