Some visitors to the reserve yesterday afternoon had a brilliant treat in store for them as they sat watching from the Goosander hide. What at first was passed off for a cormorant on the horizon flew right round to land on one of the perches in front of the hide. An osprey! The bird had just successfully caught a fish and was resting, but not for long as the gulls soon started mobbing it and away it flew. Nice indeed! but the osprey was quite far so for that kind of shot there was a need of big zoom which he had this fortunate photographer ;-)

Taken from Roy Dennis Blog 7 April: This evening, I've just had an email from Garry Prescott who got some beautiful photos of a colour ringed osprey at Blachford Lakes, Hampshire today - very exciting for him. It's an adult female which I ringed 15 years ago as a chick near Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands. The colour ring was white/black SY on right leg. I don't know where she is breeding, but not in my study area where I check every breeding osprey for colour rings. Thanks Garry for the great photos - one attached here.
