Whilst down in Cornwall this week I came across this Mediterranean Gull sitting in amongst a few Black Headed Gulls. These two birds are always a muddle for people so I thought it would be nice to post the picture on here for a direct comparison. Things to look at....
1) Much thicker blood red bill
2) Thicker blood red legs
3) White ring around the eye
4) No black on the ends of the wings5) A much whiter, slightly stockier bird altogether
5) A Whiter slightly stockier bird altogether
and listen out for its cat like "meeeow" call
Thank you Paul, that is very helpful. It also seems to have a red eye. Am I right?
Cheers, Linda.

It has also had a brilliant 'paint job' on those red legs when you click on the photo. Really useful - thanks. All we need now are some similar photos of all the other gulls that I am hopeless at ID'ing.

Yes...it does have a red ring around the eye as well....Well spotted.
Thanks Paul, if only they could always be sitting amongst the others :-) Had forgotten about the lack of black on end of wings which is another useful tip - just need to remember it! Lovely sharp photo. Hope Cornwall was good.
