What a brilliant year it's been for birding/wildlife/learning and most knowledge gathered at Arne, am so lucky to live so near, and these are my 'firsts':
Great Grey Shrike, Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, Hobby, Redstart, Osprey, Brambling, Firecrest - maybe a couple more but not verified or photo proof so can't count! Raft Spider, Wasp Spider.
Then, in other places other than Arne - Cirl Bunting, Bearded Tit, Kingfisher, Bar Headed Geese, Barnacle Goose and Solitary Sandpiper.
It's been fantastic and have really enjoyed joining the Community and seeing everyone's amazing photos and meeting some really nice people along the way too.
Happy New Year to Everyone
Sounds like a very good year there Pudweena, a very happy 2012 to you to.
Nice ticks Pudweena, had you already seen Nightjar,Marsh Harrier,Spoonbill and Avocet.Happy new year to you and all bloggers.Pleased you had a enjoyable year and hope 2012 at least as good or better.Think all of us at Arne enjoyed your company even if you are not anonymous any more.
Thanks Andrewa and Sooty and yes, had already seen those birds in 2010.
I picked up a few ticks last year but I'm pleased to say they were all quickly removed.
Glad to hear it Dom and Santa brought me my tick tool as requested so am well prepared now. In fact there are two tools of different sizes, does that mean there are different sized ticks?!
Sure are Pudweena, small ones if you find them quickly and really big ones full of blood if you are unlucky enough to miss seeing them for a while.
Don't like the sound of the ticks he he but just spotted this and nice to meet you Pudweena'

Hello Sheena, no, I hope I never see one or get one. Curious though, Sooty, what do you do with them once removed or are they dead at that point?
Kill the revolting little beasts.....squish, drown or burn - they are really resistant so never assume they are dead.

Yuk - thanks for advice that hopefully I won't ever need to put into practice.
