Sightings - Thursday 11th August 2011
Balearic Shearwater - singles past Durlston, Portland Bill and St Aldhelm's Head
Osprey - 1 in the Wareham Channel
Marsh Harrier - 2 in the Wareham Channel
Saw 2 Ospreys at Arne yesterday..1 was on the old tree opposite the Coombe Hide where all the geese are in the field by middlebere and the other 1 was on the Osprey Pole at the bottom end of coombe heath..it sat on the pole for around 30-40 minutes..
Interesting. Only ever seen the peregrine opposite Coombe hide.
Come on then - where's yr piccies?
cheers Dom..I put 2 on RSPB love nature..they are miles away so I wasnt even thinking of putting them on here..not when you get so good ones..someone cropped and zoomed in a bit on the one opposite coombe hide and it does look like a pergerine..:-)
What's RSPB Love Nature then?
on facebook dom..search for RSPB and you will find it..:-)
www.facebook.com
a direct link for you..
Pete, to confirm, the tree opposite the coombe trail, we call it the 'peregrine tree' as it is a favourite perch for the falcons in the winter. Having a peek on said facebook page it is definately a falcon, most probably a peregrine (rather than a hobby)
Thanks Rob..it definitely was an Osprey on the pole..saw 1 at last..couldnt get too close for a decent photograph..will leave that to Dom..:-)
A short video snippet of the bird I photographed in the last week of August:
