I have these woodpeckers in my garden everyday on one of three feeing stations. the photo was taken from inside my home through glass.
I have a Greater Spotted Woodpecker (Male like this one), in my garden in Tipton in the Black Country. Do you find Woolly that they disappear for days/weeks and then return and stay for days and weeks? My Woodpecker has been awol for a couple of weeks now, but prior to that was in the garden all day, every day. I contacted the RSPB and they advised that Woodpeckers come and go with flocks of other birds (There is a certain name for this).It is frustrating as he is my favourite and you might know when I completed BGBW in January, he was nowhere to be seen...until typically about half an hour after I had completed the survey! Is it the same for you? Woody (Hence the nickname!).
