I had a female Linnet on my seed feeders today, it's the first time i've seen one, let alone here !
Does anyone else get them on the feeders ?
There are farms near here and parks and woods so they'll be from these areas and calling in here for a quick snack !!!
Hi Redwing,
Well done, what a lovely visitor. I've never seen one either.
Cheers, Linda.

I looked in a couple of reference books and they contradicted each other, one said they're rarely seen in gardens and the other said they often come to gardens 'and' feeders.
It certainly liked the sunflower hearts and joined the Greenfinches quite happily !
It's annoying when there's such conflicting information given in these books.
Great garden visitor! :-)

Congratulations on your new visitor. Bet you were pleased! I've yet to see one.
How fabulous - that is another bird I have yet to see. Well spotted!
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
I often see flocks of mixed finches which include linnets flying over the field behind my house and they come and have a little rest now and again in the trees in my garden but I have never seen one on a feeder. I have just put up a feeder with sunflower hearts today so I will watch closely from now on to see if any use it. I hope so as they are nice little birds.
There is something new to learn everyday...

Great that you spotted it. Makes you wonder, what birds visit our gardens and we miss them.
Sarum Bat, you're right, they are small little birds, much more petite than the other finches, noticeably so by comparison.
Great to have a lovely visitor in your garden.

Nature Is Amazing - Let Us Keep It That Way
Hi Redwing, That is exciting news and I can understand the confusion. I had what I thought was a Linnet visit my feeder the other day and managed to get a snap if it and sent it into one of the Magazines. Sadly the editor let me know that my beautiful Linnet was a Lesser Redpoll. Did you get a pic of it by any chance . . .
I have attached my 'Linnet' now renamed 'redpoll'!
Regards, David
