Hi it has just started to snow here and a large flock of goldfinchs has just landed in the tree there must be about 50 of them, my feeder are full up with goldfinchs, with loads waitingfor they turn!
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
Unknown said: my Goldcrest (I say 'my' to annoy Squirrel, lol!) was always on the suet, didn't seem to matter what suet either; suet balls, suet blocks even suet pellets/nibbles. I found he liked the insect blocks mostly though. I have a few photos in my gallery of him. Now, back to Goldfinches...which I don't have, lol!

Hey, Paul [wave], if I had a Goldcrest it would be 'MY' not 'my' - so you enjoy it - I would [grin]
As for goldfinches - neither do I now as my two have gone AWOL again!!!
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Goldfinches AND goldcrests! We have only had 1 goldfinch recently, drinking from the puddle left by starlings bathing. As for goldcrests... I wish!!!
Hello all
I can't believe it but on Saturday whilst munching on a toasted muffin with marmite, I got visited by two Goldfinches, which I'm assuming is the first of their two visits to our garden for the whole year. They're early this year though - do they know something that we don't. Luckily had the camera nearby and got a quick shot before they flew off. Either Buzzard is feeling generous, or Janet has evicted hers!
Regards
Kerry

Hi Kezmo,
Anyone who eats marmite on muffins or anything else deserves all they get. LOL.
Congratulations Kezmo, and great photo. He is looking very carefully at your feeder. I do hope they return for you.
Cheers, Linda.

Nice photo, the first of many I hope, mine have been with me since I moved into this house last February 09 had goldfinches every day, even in snow.
never evict mine sparrow, if any thing they have multiplied
Oh and as for marmite, I love the stuff :-)
Well done Kezmo, brilliant photo. My two, when they deign to appear, persist in standing with their backs to me, totally disregarding my constant yelling of "turn round you (expletive deleted)" at them!!!
Hi Janet
Well done you.
I feel like an under achiever with my 3 regulars :-(
Chris
Best wishes Chris

Ooooooh I think I'll join in too. I do see Goldfinches at times but not so much over the winter, I gather that the summer and autumn finches seen her in Cumbria are two different populations. Our summer ones having gone to Spain and our autumn/winter ones coming down from Scandinavia.
I saw a dipper when I was out with the dog this morning and watched it bob about on the river. Such handsome birds.
The picture below was taken last July .... only had a compact camera with me but managed to get some sort of shot.
They were on a branch just above head height and I watched them for a good five minutes before they ambled off
Wow! Cute overload!!!!! That's an excellent photo. Well done.
Heck, what a great photo, and what a lovely thing to see. Brilliant, and so cute.
So the goldies I have been getting all winter here in Lancs, and still here, will they go back to Scandinavia soon? Does that mean I have to keep fingers crossed I will get some summer ones?
