You may have seen in the press over the last few weeks Iolo Williams urging people “to speak up to ensure the scheme delivers the support wildlife-friendly farmers need to make real improvements for threatened farmland wildlife such as curlews, water voles and marsh fritillary butterflies.”

At the end of this week the Welsh Government’s consultation on the future of their farmland wildlife scheme, Glastir, will close. This is our last chance to make sure the scheme, which is intended to deliver environmental objectives on farmland, will deliver for Welsh wildlife over the next 6 years. In order to tackle the declines in our wildlife it is vitally important that this scheme forms part of a wider fully financed package to deliver for Welsh nature. You can read more about what we’re calling on Glastir to do in our previous blog post here.

In our previous blog we commented that the consultation closes on 28th March, last week the Welsh Government announced the good news that they would be extending the consultation to enable more people to have their say. That means that this Friday (2nd April) is the new deadline for submissions. Please help nature have a voice by writing a quick letter or email to the Welsh Government today.
