As part of this year’s Big Schools’ Birdwatch I teamed up with Caerphilly County Council to help give nature a home in four primary schools in the Blackwood area. Over two action packed days I worked with Caerphilly’s County Council’s Andy Wilkinson and visited the four schools – Cefn Fforest Primary, Fleur de Lis, Pengam and Blackwood.
During the sessions the pupils constructed a bird table for their grounds, designed their own bird feeders for the school and to take home and learnt why it’s so important to help nature.
Each school was left with an awesome bird table and some expertly designed feeders! The bird tables was set up so the pupils could see them from the classroom and spot any birds that visit – hopefully fuelling an interest in nature that they will take with them in the future.
In each of the schools the pupils’ enthusiasm, interest and willingness to help birds was really inspiring. We had a great time working with them and they are real credit to their schools.
Finally I would like to say diolch yn fawr iawn to the four schools each of which were really welcoming and most importantly eager to help birds in the schools grounds.
