RSPB Cymru has joined forces with Size of Wales to help save the home of some of the world’s most important wildlife.
Gola Forest in Sierra Leone is home to hundreds of species, from the world’s most important population of pygmy hippo to rare monkeys, moths the size of dinner plates and trees as tall as skyscrapers. Without the public’s help, the Gola Rainforest’s hidden secrets could soon be lost forever.
Like so many rainforests, Gola and its wildlife are under threat from illegal logging, mining and poaching, the world loses an area of tropical forest the size of a football pitch every four seconds, and this is why RSPB Cymru needs help to protect it.
Public support is vital, we urgently need to understand more about this magical rainforest and its threatened wildlife, the more we learn about them the better chance we have of saving them.
The RSPB has been involved with Gola Forest since 1990, and as part of their Give to Gola campaign this March the conservation charity hopes to raise a target of £10,000. Size of Wales - a unique Welsh scheme to sustain an area of tropical forest the size of Wales - has kindly agreed to match fund all money raised over the month, doubling the conservation charity’s income efforts.
RSPB Cymru is appealing to the public to help them raise these much needed funds. To donate £5, £10 or even £15 go to our simple Just Giving page online www.justgiving.com/RSPBGola, or if you’d like to get involved and create your own fundraising activity call Lauren Thomas on 02920 353 000.
