Our Falcon Fun day in Cardiff will inspire the next generation of wildlife fans to try out fun activities on the day, and allow visitors to get up close and personal with the wildlife on their doorstep. Falcon Fun Day will take place on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 July from 10am until 4pm on the green lawn in front of the National Museum Wales building in Cardiff city centre. The fun day will be packed with fun events and activities, plus the chance to see the fastest falcon in the world - the peregrines that nest on Cardiff City Hall clock tower – up close through telescopes.
We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to a fun packed day; the activities on offer will get the children closer to nature and let them get their hands dirty making homes for wildlife. Visitors will also be able to pick up wildlife-watching tips by getting close up views of the peregrines, and also be inspired to visit somewhere new this summer!
The peregrines have nested on the clock tower on Cardiff City Hall for several years, and are a common site in towns and cities across the UK. Nesting sites include the Tate Modern in London, cathedrals in Lincoln and Chichester and Manchester’s Arndale shopping centre. Peregrines have traditionally been associated with wild crags or lonely sea cliffs but changing landscapes mean they have adapted to living in more unlikely places. All they ask for is a place to breed and a food supply they can catch.
