On Friday 20 June, for the first time in 3000 years human beings will sleep 600ft underground at the National Showcaves Centre for Wales near Swansea.
Up to 15 children will put their fears to one side and take on an opportunity of a lifetime to raise money for charity. The children will sleep in the Cathedral Cave in the part called the ‘Dome of St Pauls,’ so called because it’s as large as St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
This will be the first time anyone has ever slept in the cave for 3000 years, when it was last used by humans as a shelter and place to live. The children will be surrounded by a large lake which is fed by two 40ft high waterfalls!
The children are members of the RSPB Cwm Clydach Kites and Dippers Wildlife Group near Swansea, and will be sleeping in the Cathedral Cave as part of the RSPB's Big Wild Sleepout taking place between 16 – 22 June this year
The Big Wild Sleepout is part of the RSPB’s ‘Giving Nature a Home’ campaign, aimed at inspiring everyone to do their bit for nature, wherever they live and however big their outside space.
If you would like to sponsor these children for taking part in such an epic challenge and help them reach their target, go to their Just Giving page, its really simple and easy to donate http://www.justgiving.com/rspb-kitesanddipperscavecamp
