RSPB scientific research: volunteer opportunities?

Hi everyone, I wonder if you might be able to help. 

I'm looking for volunteer opportunities that would allow me to get involved in some of the research being undertaken by the RSPB and wondered if any of you here are already involved and if so, how you went about it? I'm a research scientist by training but have spent my entire career in a lab and I've been looking at how I might gain some experience in what really interests me, i.e. wildlife conservation and management. Do you think this might be possible? Thanks so much guys.
