Leadership skills to create Positive Change

When it comes to the environment and the natural world, the younger generation are our inspiration. They care, they petition, they volunteer. Together, they call for a greater focus on the planet and the future.

So when it comes to equipping them with the tools they will need to create positive change for themselves and the world around them, we, the Leadership Skills Foundation wanted to step up. Alongside our partners, WWF and the RSPB, we have created the Environment Leaders Programme.

The Environment Leaders Programme is a range of qualifications designed to support the development of young peoples’ leadership skills through the planning and leading of activities and projects which aim to have a positive impact on our natural world.

The programme includes Level 3 and Level 2 qualifications, with centres buying into the programme as a whole, delivering the most appropriate level of qualification(s) for their learners.

The table below provides an overview of the qualification levels:

From our pilot of the Level 3, we’ve had the following great response from learners. You can read more in our summary impact report, but these are some stats we really wanted to share:

  • 100% of learners developed essential leadership skills
  • 92% of learners feel more committed to social action
  • 87% of learners said they would recommend the programme

This is the start of a ripple effect that we hope to see become a wave of positive social action for the benefit of the natural world.
