Its almost here folks! (26th-27th January) You've got the snacks, your pen and paper, and the bird food already. But what time do you prefer to do your count? Are you are morning or afternoon person? Let us know.ClaireP.S: Don't forget you can add your sightings from this weekend onwards as well as getting more information about the count on the link below:http://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/
I have to work on Saturday and maybe out all day on Sunday, is it acceptable if I do my hour on Friday or Monday??

Either early morning after we've put the food out, or around 3-4pm when everyone turns up for the afternoon stuffing-themselves-before-dark session.
A closed mouth gathers no foot.
I hope my feildfare sticks around for the count :)
kind regards the little robin (gayle)
Early morning is definitely best to catch a serious number of birds.......potentially including our friendly neighbourhood sparrowhawk.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Hi Clare ,
Before the "friendly neighborhood Sparrow hawk" eats the little birdies????
Hi who decided which ten birds species were to form this garden watch? Already there's 2 replies which suggest that the sparrowhawk may be more common than some on the list. With numbers at record levels they are now a common garden bird which is not now as rare as the RSPB suggests.
And before the hawk lovers reply. 'Rare' means seldom seen and this term cannot be applied now to this bird.
Does "seldom seen" apply to parts of the UK where it hasn't been seen?
I've lived in the same house in South Wales for the past 16 years and have never seen one in my garden.

Let me know your postcode and i'll do my best to locate your nearest pair?
I agree with Alan, the seldom seen group, have not seen the sparrowhawk for several weeks!!! in my garden!!
