It's all done for another year, at least for me. I got the usual suspects and no more, so I have I've awarded my star status to the Goldfinch - they came out in force for me, and I didn't get any last year. I got 8 species last year, 5 this year, and only 2 of these were on last year's list - interesting. Which species was the star for everyone else?

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

Star is the two Reed Bunting but my favourites are the Dunnock who run about like little Mice in the hedge row
Our star species was a treecreeper which was a first for us.
28 bullfinch came a close second though.
Drexyl, that is more than your fair share!!!! 1 of those 28 must be mine. Please show them a map to Jersey :)

Nothing unusual this year but a Greenfinch was nice to see as they rare getting rare in my part of Somerset. Being close to the Westhay Starling roost, that species dominates all of the gardens and feeders at this time of year. Once they arrive, most other species move away. I still saw 15 House Sparrows that live on the house.
the house & tree sparrows are my star species they dominate my feeders all year round, then the blue & great tit clan,it was great to see the long tailed tit clan at my feeders plus a willow tit,
Our star in the garden is a greater spotted woodpecker who comes to a feed on one of our tree suet blocks at least twice a day.

My top bird of 2012 is the Goldfinch.
43 lined up on the overhead wires before swooping down to eat shelled sunflower seeds, followed by some niger and mixed seed. The sunflowers are their prime target.
Last year it was clouds of starlings, sparrows, chaffinches then goldfinches all in large numbers.
Most seem to have found their food elsewhese since fledging time. Not so the goldfinches. They have been visiting daily to scoff niger. I started feeding sunflower on the ground and table from November.
I spotted a blackcap (female) for the 1st time here. They don't come to the feeders, so I tend not to see them, though i hear them. Of course, today, now the count is over, I've had a huge flock of long-tailed tits and the great spotted woody.... they usually only visit a couple of times a week and I was really hoping they'd show themselves over the weekend.
This morning it's about the busiest I've seen it on the feeders
