I am very new to bird watching having moved to the country and acquiring a garden after years of inner city life. So I have taken photos of everything that has visited out garden lately and just need to check with those that know that I'm correct in my identifications ready for the Big Garden Bird Watch.

Pied Wagtail
House Sparrow
Think that's all that I've seen for far. Did I get them all right???

Mrs. Chaffinch looks like Mrs Dunnock(Hedge Sparrow) to me1
Thanks Wellie... have google image searched the Dunnock and I think you're right. Wow so that's another species to add to my list.
Can't believe how many different birds come into the garden! Saw an easily identifiable Magpie when I was making a cuppa this afternoon but didn't have my camera to hand and another bird that I can only describe as a pinky looking pigeon thing (collared dove maybe?) Will have to get a closer look at it when it comes back

Is there a trick for reliably identifying Dunnocks? Thanks.
Look at the beak, very thin shap pointed. Sparrows, Finches , etc all have the thick short wedge beak. Hope this helps.

And another new visitor this morning! I am guessing thrush, but not sure which. Was about the same size as the blackbirds that come visiting. I am soo lucky getting all these fabulous birds coming into the garden

Dunnocks have for many years been called Hedge Sparrows, but in fact they are not Sparrows, nor are they related to Sparrows at all.
