We’re still buzzing from the incredible #TheTimeIsNow lobby, are you?

On 30 June 2020, over 200 digital meetings were held with MPs across the UK, including eight right here in Northern Ireland! Plus, Chris Packham joined Lucy Siegle for an empowering discussion on why a #GreenRecovery is so important; Radio 1’s Cel Spellman chatted with youth campaigners (including James Miller Naturalist) about the future young people deserve; Springwatch’s Gillian Burke led an inspiring talk on making activism more inclusive... and even Ellie Goulding made an appearance! Phew.

During the day, over 13,000 amazing people (just like you) used the power of their voices to tell their local MPs that we don’t just want to ‘build, build, build’ our way out of the Coronavirus pandemic, we want to build back better and create a healthier, greener and fairer future that benefits people and nature.

Here in Northern Ireland, eight meetings were held during the week of the event and approximately one hundred people met with their local MPs.

Along with having a digital cuppa, MPs listened as passionate people spoke about the need for stronger environmental protection in Northern Ireland, the wealth of opportunities for nature, people and the economy through the creation of a green energy industry and the health and wellbeing benefits that nature provides.

It feels pretty great to be part of history and to attend the first ever lobby of Parliament, but our work doesn’t stop there. We need to ensure the government delivers a bold, new vision for tomorrow that benefits people, our natural world and takes action against climate change – rejecting the old-fashioned high-carbon infrastructure of yesterday. If we can secure a green recovery, it will:

• Unleash investment in cleaner, greener homes, public spaces and transport
• Create green jobs that will support millions out of the recession
• Put nature on the pathway to recovery at home, and abroad
• Support the most vulnerable here in society

There’s still time to email your local MP and ask them to support a green recovery and sign The Climate Coalition’s declaration.

Thanks, as always, for giving your voice to nature!
