RSPB NI has launched its manifesto for Northern Ireland’s local government election. It has set out a number of key actions that need to be taken to help councils play their part in tackling the nature and climate emergency.
John Martin, Head of Policy and Advocacy, RSPB NI commented:
“With 11% of species at risk of extinction here in Northern Ireland there is an urgent need for action on biodiversity loss and councils have a key role to play in protecting nature and also in tackling climate change.
“Today RSPB NI are launching our local government manifesto which contains key asks of council election candidates in the areas of:
“Each of our 11 councils have a very important role to play in tackling the challenges that nature now faces. Our manifesto contains recommendations that we would like our new councillors to adopt and demonstrate that local government is taking its role in tackling the nature and climate emergency seriously.”
