Get a 'taste' for Volunteering with RSPB NI this May

Tomorrow's session is now full! A big thank you to everyone joining in. Couldn't make it this time? Not to worry, the next Volunteer Taster Day will be on the 24th of June.

Are you interested in getting outdoors, making new friends and helping nature thrive? Volunteering with RSPB provides all that and more.

This taster day is an excellent opportunity to get a sense of the practical habitat management work that our regular volunteers carry out, and a great chance to get outdoors in some wild and wonderful spaces! The RSPB Belfast Harbour Reserves are home to some of our most spectacular species in Northern Ireland, including common terns, black-tailed godwits, redshank and lapwing. Unfortunately, many of these species and the habitats they depend on are at risk of being lost - that's where you come in!

Belfast WoW features a freshwater lagoon which is home to many rare and wonderful birds and other wildlife. This part of the reserve is not open to the public, so this is an exciting opportunity to enjoy a very special slice of nature.

We will be putting together a temporary raft for common and arctic terns. This will involve some heavy lifting of plastic modules, but it will all be done in groups to spread the weight.

Join us to help nature thrive in Belfast!

When: 27th May 2023, 10.30am - 12.30pm

Where: RSPB Window on Wildlife (WoW), 100 Airport Road West, BT3 9ED

Activity: We will be putting together a temporary raft for common and arctic terns. This will involve some heavy lifting of plastic modules, but it will all be done in groups to spread the weight.

This FREE event is suitable for all ages, however anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Make sure to wrap up warm, with sensible footwear and waterproofs.

Please contact aoife.debhal@rspb.org.uk to sign up for the event.

There are more than 12,000 fantastic volunteers and between them, they contribute almost one million hours every year! Our volunteering roles can be tailored to your skills, interests and circumstances. You do not have to be an RSPB member to volunteer with us, you don't even have to be a bird or wildlife expert to volunteer for us. There are many ways you can get involved with our work. If you don't know a robin from a redwing, it really doesn't matter.
