Plants, flowers and shrubs; Share your photos here

As I sit here, on yet another dismal, wet and grey weekend, chomping away at some toast and marmalade Mrs PR has kindly done for me, along with a nice cuppa, and sorting through the few photos I've managed to grab so far this year, I think I recalled a thread some time back of plants or flowers people have seen, but couldn't find anything in the searches.

So, without further ado, I thought why not set a thread up for , where all can share their photos, not just in the wild, but the garden, local municipal parks, anywhere, because without these plants, there wouldn't be nature.

It's not unusual to see flowers virtually all year through, not because of global warming, climate change or whatever scenario you prefer to use, but because some plants are hardy and prefer to be winter borne. But for many, the first flowers they really see properly, are snowdrops in February, followed by crocuses (late February- Mach) and then the delightful daffodils (March/April)., bluebells (April time), and much more.

So lets put some colour back into the grey world, spring is coming, so here's a few to set things going.

February; snowdrops

February: Sweet Violet

March: the first daffs in bloom

March: always a sign that spring is on the way, the primrose

March; crocuses (from a local municipal park)

March; mini daffs in our garden

and some proper daffs in the garden, starting to bloom

BTW, I've seen my second bee of the year, having a nosey around the daffs above, the first was late Feb, the second was earlier today, but on both occasions, the weather wasn't right to get the camera out...

  • Bees certainly do love the Sage Mart, gradually increasing my stocks of various ornamenta l Salvias year on year to help them! Lost my big tall common one though!

  • That is a lovely looking Delilah Linda. Is that what you meant or did you mean the actual name of the Delilah, don't want to insult you if you already knew what it was, you know what I mean. ThinkingGrinning Beautiful colours in both flowers.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Thanks CL...lol...Deliah it is...am hopeless when it comes to flowers. I just pick seed thats good for wildlife and flower the same year as sewing so dont even look at their names lol..Already bought lots of half priced seeds for next year and now other half is buying me a potting shed as he doesnt want an indoor forest lol

  • Ha ha, they are lovely flowers. I am in our local garden club, with having an interest in the garden, flowers and birds, I am still learning! We have an annual show, (cut flowers, pot plants, baking, jams etc, vegetables, flower arranging) sadly not this year again, but I have seen some cracking looking flowers. I do some floral art and the baking and have been sucessful over the years with awards.

Once you get the bug you need extra space, so a lovely potting shed/greenhouse is just what you need, then all the bits and bobs that go with it, next you will be growing veggies in there and then a vegetable plot etc etc.....Joy

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • How lovely CL..now I know where to come in future for my flower IDS...Oh I do enjoy a bit of baking aswell, as for growing veg...mmm..would need to get raised beds as not allowed to consume anything grown in our soil as it was an old iron works...maybe something for retirement days lol

I certainly have the growing flowers bug as I was actually distraught when the slugs were eating all my sunflowers!!!
