I promised to start one since we're not all just bird-loving artists. Birds are great, but we all have other passions. :)
Since many of us love and are inspired by nature, this thread is for any artwork related to all things wild and untamed, be that fungi in dappled woodland light, the patterns of rock fissures, moths, bluebells in spring, etc. There are no rules (art, rules?) but there should be some recommendations, as follows:
This is a fun thread.
This is a fun thread, not just for finished paintings, ready to mount and frame.
Any medium, any size, any format, anything goes.
(I'd prefer no pets please, but this is a personal preference. Feel free to ignore me.)
To start, inspired by the little squirrels that came this morning to enjoy some seeds in my garden, here's a charcoal sketch in my sketchbook.
'Catch me if you can!'

They are dinosaurs!

I am not sure what you mean. In any case, if that comment insulted you, it needn't. I only meant they were novel looking, and what one considered strange is so very attractive. But then again they are not so novel, there are plenty of bare-faced birds.
stretching the "wildlife" theme to its limit again - some roses in brush tip felt pen
and here is one I did a few years ago on my tablet (Sketchbook Pro)(tablet now deceased and only some pictures saved unfortunately) - the Cuillin -
see my photos on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/maggyn/
Really lovely, freestyle roses.
I'm afraid I did not know what the Cuilin was, but now that I do, it's very beautiful and glacial looking in some photos. You capture it very dark, moody and dramatic, would make a good study.
thanks :) Skye is pretty spectacular (weather permitting!) - my sister-in-law and her husband live their so have been quite a few times in a variety of weather conditions! it is well worth a visit if you have a chance
have been painting recently but mostly buildings but did a couple of tulip sketches last night - artist felt pen and acrylic - just a bit of fun!
Nice bunch of tulips Maggy :)
How vibrant are they? Really nice shapes, prefer the first. You've harmonised both in terms of colour, but I find the ultramarine too bright for the greens. In the first, the greens have gone greyish which is not unnatural, and have naturally darkened the reds.
I could only suggest some darks in the greens/stems and perhaps not having the tulips on the same level/line? Have a bit more contrast/diversity for interest, like how bouquets are arranged at different heights and sit in different directions.
I can only apologise for not doing anything else but birds, blame the birds...! I will get going sometime. In the meantime, I'll enjoy your stuff. :)......But the daffodils are out already, I could easily forget birds for a while... if they give me permission. Birds, how about it?
Not been painting anything suitable for a while but here is a squirrel (with a peanut) in watercolour (pity I ran out of paper!)
That's a fine looking fellow Maggy, well done.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Thank you Catlady - Happy new Year :)
