Hello Folks! Fungi come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours. Whilst some are edible, others are poisonous and best avoided. They can be found almost everywhere and are often easily overlooked. Many can be seen in woodland and meadow, especially at this time of year. Each Monday for 12 weeks I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify the UK fungus. On Wednesday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. On Friday I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest.MYSTERY FUNGI QUIZ #2A cutting storm off.

Not lighting the cigar up yet it's only day 1 and MrsT often has a sting in the tail.No cheating either,I just saw some on a Silver Birch on the way back from the shops.
Good seaman, Victoria Cross awarded for defusing the tricky 'grenade' of tricky riddler MrsT. I have no clue about identifying fungus, except for in the shops and only believing to be true what's printed on the tin of course. My favourite fungus is Chanterelle, followed by Yellow Boletus, and finally the Champignon mushroom (remember Bryan May and John Taylor with "We are the Champignons!" :o) All the very best, Dejan Djordjevic.
The best thing about Fungi may well be the fact that German scientists are finding new ways to use them including using Fungi to break down toxins including at sewage treatment plants.
Seaman, think you have a special gift of getting MrsTs quiz questions right, well done again in anticipation.Even if you are wrong it was a very good try.
A lot of bunkum about my getting it right,I'm saying nowt until the boss says yes (or no)on Friday, been wrong too often for that.
Well BW it may be just a local Dales name, hence not celebrating yet.
Clue: I was carried in Otzi's med kit!
Maybe I need a rethink, wasn't Otzi the iceman found on a clacier a while back ?
