A query cropped up earlier that got us looking at regional names for birds which then triggered an idea for a little just for fun quiz for you, I hope you are tempted into having a go (without using Google first!).
By what common bird names are the below better known as, bonus points if you get the region the local name comes from as well!

The list of local bird names I have left out is a very, very , very long one...plenty of scope for more quizzes in the future! How have you got on with these ones?
Well I've never heard of any of them so these are just wild guesses.
I'll guess the region as East Anglia.

Mumruffin = Blackbird
Sprite = Wren
Dirsh = Dunnock
Tangle picker = Oystercatcher
Thistle ock = Goldfinch
Blood hawk = Sparrowhawk
Little peewit = Little ringed plover
Longnix = Avocet
Golden dishwasher = Curlew
Didn't look at the other answers before, but funny to see that we've come to the same conclusions for some!!
