Hello Folks! Flowers not only decorate our meadows, our woodlands, our roadsides with splashes of colour, but they also provide food and shelter for a whole host of insects. We have only to look at UK flowers to appreciate their beauty, their scent, their diversity. Each Monday for 12 weeks I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify the UK flower. On Wednesday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. On Friday I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest.Keep a note of each species, as I will be asking which is the odd one out at the end of the quiz.MYSTERY FLOWER QUIZ#12Forgive my blotched lower lip, I'm a hemiparasite!
The first thing that comes to mind is Mistletoe but not sure about the lower lip.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
My first guess that sprung to mind without cheating was a Snapdragon, however, if it is not that one then I had to cheat to find an alternative possibility so I can't say fairly what my second choice was ................. so I'll just watch this space LOL

There are some orchids which are hemiparasites, and these would have a lower lip.... Not sure which though!

I think Lousewort is a parasitic plant. It's got a critter's name in it but I don't know about the blotchy lower lip. Also, would Mrs T have used the word "forgive" without a reason, so I think there must be more to it.

Could it be a litchen of some sort
The blotched lower lip could refer to sulking
Waiting for the fog to clear in more than one way, what is a hemiparasite?

It's a plant that gets some of its nutrition from the host that it's attached to but also some from photosynthesis. Mistletoe that Seaman suggested is the best known.
Hope you get to Alderney, Caroline.
Ah ha, thanks TJ, so something like Yellow Rattle might also fit the bill.
Somehow don't think we will get off today, I can't actually see the bottom of the garden!
