Hello Folks, RSPB reserves are great places for you to get closer to nature. So what better reason than to have a quiz to see how much you know about them. Each Monday for 12 weeks, I will be posting a little teaser for you. Without looking in books or on the internet (i.e - no cheating), see if you can identify this RSPB reserve. On Wednesday, so as long as no-one has guessed it, I will post one clue. On Friday I will post the answer along with some additional information for your interest.
Just for fun!: Make sure you keep an note of the first letter of each reserve as the weeks go by, and at the end of week 12, see if you can rearrange all 12 letters to spell out a message about our reserves. Here goes .... MYSTERY RSPB RESERVE#102 million cubic metres of water.
The next clue Ray-----the person was born in the last century.
Still struggling.
By the way MrsT I dare not ask your age,
"he who dares" and all that.
Ray
last guess Fairburn Ings.
a good laugh is better than a tonic
That is just about a fantastic guess Ray so that must mean that Darren,MrsT whoops and Fairburn Ings all started out in 1957.
If you have got it right Ray you deserve a Good Egg.
Yeah Sooty I'm not that old!... I shall ponder posting the answer whilst I sulk....1957, hurumphhhh!
Sorry MrsT at least that gives us another clue.
Some very diplomatic posts on here,MrsT must be the boss of all of us and yes Ray is going to be in the running for some sort of award for pushing his luck.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Did find a reserve that opened in 1940 but thought better not put all the clues together and suggest that MrsT.
Oooh, i'm not sure I want to be the boss of you all... there aren't enough hours in the day (hehe), cos' its friday and I am fed up with the snow I will post one more ickle clue: this reserve is quite a way up north.
Far North from t'Lodge just about reaches Yorkshire lol
This week’s mystery reserve is..... Insh Marshes in the Highlands. Opened in 1973, Insh Marshes is one of Europe’s most important wetlands. Insh Marshes is home to Lapwing, Curlew and Redshanks as well as Whooper swan, Teal and Wigeon. The rare Dark Bordered Beauty moth has also been recorded at Insh Marshes, having only been found in 5 other sites in the UK. Did you know that when it floods the reserve can hold over 2 million cubic meters of water, this massive natural flood defences prevents communities further downstream from flooding.
More information on Insh Marshes can be found here:

Keep an eye out for next week’s mystery reserve quiz.

P.S - Don’t forget to jot down the first letter of each reserve.
