Congratulations to all of you who suggested vulture... the answer to this weeks quiz is Slender-billed vulture (Gyps tenuirostris).
Though it once occurred in Thailand and Malaysia, Slender-billed vultures can now be found in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Unfortunately, because of their similarity with other Gyps vultures, their exact population size is unknown.
As scavengers, which feed on carrion, Slender-billed vultures are socialable birds that can often be found around rubbish dumps and slaughter houses looking for food. Sadly, due to various causes, including the eating carcasses of animals that have been treated with the veterinary drug diclofenac, Slender-billed vulture numbers have plummeted.
Keep an eye out for your next mystery bird.
