Hi all, on my travels recently i've taken a healthy number of dodgy pictures of birds and bugs. Rather than just press delete I figured why not give you a chance to test your ID skills. So here are just a few to have a go at, i'll post the answers a bit later this week.

Take a bow MarJus, I give up, couldn't even get the butterfly right and that is supposed to be my strong subject. Back to the id books :)

Lol Doggie! I don't think so!! Quite honestly it was a little easier for me as there were plenty of suggestions and I just had to choose those that I thought were right! Had there been none, I would have struggled!
Agree with the birds answer but I am inclined to say it is a moth, not a butterfly.
Hi- I don't know many butterflies or moths- and I've been out birding today- Velvet Scoter, Black throated Diver, Kittiwake, Pomarine Skua

Can we have more competitions, like this one, which require us to stretch our bird identification in the field skills rather than our knowledge of the names of foreign species we will never (probably) have any chance to see.
Hi Lady, I can confirm it was a small heath butterfly, it's just hiding it's forewings in the picture!!! It did decide to show off it's forewings briefly before it fluttered away across the heath!
Thanks for the comment Angela. Hopefully we can all contribute to some more ID quizzes that cater for all levels of interest in the future.
Best wishes
