Profile Privacy Poll!

After some concerns which were raised last week, we'd like to ask your opinion on who should be able to see your Community profile page?

That's the page that tells people about you, and links to your friends and recent posts etc.

Why not check out the news from the wildlife enquiries team?

  • Sorry folks, think we should get rid of profiles completely, seems no one feels happy that people can look at them and it is simple to become a member then look anyway.Cannot see any way of stopping that.

  • Think it's up to the individual whether they complete their profile or not! After all, it's not compulsory!!

Plus I find it useful sometimes to know maybe where the person is based (UK or not) and also it's better in some cases to know if the person is male or female (if not obvious by their pseudonym).

  • Marjus is quite right. If you are unhappy, then don't fill in any details you don't wish others to see.

I for one find profiles useful, especially when trying to help a newbie as it helps to know a little about them before giving advice, and I also find them useful if I get a friends request from out of the blue.

    Cheers, Linda.

  • Thanks for voting folks and for all your feedback, we really do appreciate it, its all good stuff. Just for the purpose of this thread though, please can we just keep it to the topic of profile privacy - thanks in advance.

  • If users are not happy about people looking at their profiles,do not put anything in it,it is possible to register without giving our life stories and as we can edit our profiles it must be possible to clear them.

    hi Seaman

Good point mentioned in your post

Keeping family member names of the profiles, number of children, animals, and even any personal blogs (shot me down with a barrel of cement) until all is settled so people feel safe.... this is the only way way forward.

The main issue to me is keeping people from entering our private world even if the e-mails are one way it may be not a good thing to all is secured on here.
