There are of course so many birds whose song is so evocative of beautiful places. I should include the skylark, the curlew and the black backed gull amongst these. Some birds just provoke amusement. Eider ducks sound like a flock of Frankie Howards
I have just come back from Cornwall and love the sound of the herring gull.
Have you seen our poll on bird song?
Don't think you can beat a Blackbird really
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

My sister lives in Cornwall and it takes some getting used to hearing herring gulls calling down the chimney (spl?) but agree very evocative of the coastal counties :-)

PS I voted for blackbird in Mrs T's poll at the top of the home page.
A very old Shropshire Lad.
When I was a child I got lost in a wood all on my own. It was deathly quiet and I was very distressed. All I could hear every now and then was a plaintive rippling bird call that rose, fell and faded but offered no help. I eventually found my way out but was haunted by that sound. A little later I discovered the identity of my tormenter. A Willow Warbler of course.
