We have the romantic, as in Resplendent Quetzal; the charming, as in erm...Charming Hummingbird; the rather more prosaic Red-flanked Bluetail; misnomers such as Iceland Gull; the amusing as in Red-faced Shag and the utterly bewildering Neglected Nuthatch.

Well, I thought at one time, the Apostle Bird only flew on Sundays!
That the Secretary Bird only worked 9 til 5 and that a Familiar Chat was two old women gossiping over the garden gate!

I always presumed that the Dark Chanting Goshawk was a raptor that had joined a religious order.
The Exclamatary Paradise Whydah likes to tell everyone what a wonderful place it lives in.
An then of course there's the Pratincole collared or otherwise which is a fool in the brassica.
